We are looking for a mid-level UI Designer to support and manage young people through their upskilling in UI Design.

Responsibilities, Experience and Tools:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

Supporting young people in their journey through and with Umuzi in a learnership in UI design.
Developing content and briefs to assist in their skills development
Integrating and aligning content with industry standards, practices and expectations
Conduct industry research and stay up-to-date on best practices, competitor UI designs and emerging technologies.
Provide support and internal training.
Address product, marketing and business needs.

The ideal candidate will have had experience in:

Working as a junior-mid UI / Interaction Designer
Managing and guiding (junior) team members
3-5 years experience

Hard Skills

Facilitation & Mentorship

Expert knowledge of UI design principles, techniques and deliverables.
Working knowledge of responsive design and grid principles.
Strong typography, layout and visual design skills.
Experience with web and mobile app design.

Soft Skills

Strong attention to detail.
Proactive, independent working style.
Strong communication and teamwork skills both within a team and as a lead.
Effective time management and ability to prioritize tasks.
Passionate about the digital medium and driving talent in South Africa.

The ideal candidate should have working knowledge of:

Industry tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma etc.

The ideation and creation of UI design deliverables: Sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, lo-fi and hi-fi layouts, prototypes.
Different workflows and methodologies such as design thinking, agile and Lean UX.
