Umuzi's Top Talent

Society and business have fundamentally changed since the pandemic began. The post-pandemic world will see the world of employment change too. Recruitment is a key area of interest for many employers and in a recent Harvard Business Review podcast Lauren Smith, vice president at Gartner Research, reflects on three major trends to look out for: a rapid turnover of necessary skills, the competitiveness that comes from offering an “employee value proposition.” Even as more people return to in-person work there is a need to expand beyond existing talent pools. Smith argues that these trends will continue. Learn more about Gartner’s research in the HBR podcast here.

The global trend of building alternate talent pipelines has been emphasised by the impact of Covid, particularly poignantly in South Africa; our traditional educational institutions are not providing industry with enough talent. Since 2014 ICT Graduates from all universities in South Africa has only increased by a measly 200 candidates a year.

The demand for Tech talent continues to be a major driver in all sectors of the South African economy. Umuzi has been growing digital talent pipelines for more than a decade, supporting more than 800 young people into high-value jobs.  We continue to have great success in placing junior talent into blue-chip companies.

We have two cohorts imminently completing the first part of their learning. In June, we have a cohort of tech talent completing our programme and seeking their next step: an internship opportunity where they can apply their learnings and grow professionally. There will be a few more young people seeking similar opportunities in July.

The pool of available talent is very limited, with the majority of graduating young people going into opportunities with their sponsoring partner. However, we are offering our partners the opportunity to try our junior full-stack web developers at a heavily subsidised rate for the next three months. For R3500 a month, for three months, you have the opportunity to work with one of our country’s bright young minds. All our talent is ready to hit the ground running, with both Agile and remote working experience.
