March/April Umuzi Kickers

It has been a little over a minute since we last touched base and you’re probably wondering what’s the tea in these Umuzi Streets? Who’s Who and where are they now? Well, don’t wonder no more the Comms Team is back and ready to spill this tea and up the volume on all major kicks made while we were quiet! Grab a seat, and let the good kicker times roll!

So Remember that time when Honourable President Ramaphozi locked the country up, for our own safety of course? Well Umuzi was thrust into another level of agile. I mean we had to adjust faster than you can say pandemic! We took the time to do some systems and process introspection and I can say it's been good y'all! The MUB energy flowing through our virtual corridors, is to die for! We are truly transcending man! We are becoming and I bet it's all because of every single of one of you who put your heart and soul into Making Umuzi Better.

In keeping with the Making Umuzi Better vibes, we’ve welcomed 3 new cohorts! We have C25, C27 and C28 in our Online Studio. A big shout out to our Partnerships Team who have been able to secure partnerships with Bidvest, Webtonic, 2U, Telkom, 99cents and BBD. Thank you for all you do to ensure Umuzi’s mandate to support young people in accessing high-value tech and creative Jobs, is realized.

YOMA IT Support Pilot

A while back we had young people from across the continent start some Umuzi programmes in IT support in partnership with YOMA (Unicef's youth Marketplace platform). This is a major milestone for us as a community. Umuzi is now continental!

African Coding Network was Featured on the Google Blog. You can have a read right here.

"Today, we are announcing three new Google Career Certificates available online on Coursera, which enable people to become job-ready for growing career areas such as IT Support, Project Management, UX Design and Data Analytics. These low-cost programs help people who want to learn online at their own pace, or who may want to change careers and don't have the time or means to access traditional education.”

The uncertainty of our times should not be a reason for us to abandon our ambitions. It may have seemed for a moment that doom and gloom would be our portion but the past few months are a testament to our, Making Umuzi Better energy. As we reflect on our efforts to make goals a reality, be encouraged that every effort is paying off. You may not have arrived at the finish line but you sure are getting closer.

Let’s keep pushing!
