It's been 14 years since we started Umuzi and 3 years since a global pandemic completely changed the way we work and who we work with. Last year we laid the groundwork for exciting partnerships and massive expansion for 2023.
Growing our learning pathways
We provide remote, accredited, asynchronous and holistic learning opportunities that integrate with employees’ work. There are two different types of learning models: Experiential and Partnered. We now offer these programmes in part-time or full-time capacities.
Experiential Learning: Experiential, customisable learning journeys that simulate real work.
Partnered: We partner with world-class learning platforms like Coursera, Coding Dojo, AWS, and more to bring you the most up to date and relevant learning content from the biggest players in the game.
Experiential Learning
We offer the following programmes through our experiential work learning platform:
Partnered
We have partnered with Coding Dojo to offer our learners a world-class coding bootcamp experience. Coding Dojo is a US-based coding academy with 10 campuses across Silicon Valley, Berkeley, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
The following programmes are being offered through our partnership:
*These programmes are subject to a minimum class size of 25 people. We will release which programmes will be starting on which start dates closer to the time.
Start Dates
Umuzi will have 4 cohorts per year starting roughly on the following dates:
1 April 2023
1 May 2023
1 Sep 2023
1 Dec 2023
*These dates are subject to slight change depending on the needs of our current partners.
We are offering specialised start dates to cohorts that are 40 learners or more per technical stream.
Accredited Programmes Umuzi offers
Umuzi is accredited with the MICT Seta in South Africa. We offer accredited programmes in Unemployed learnerships, Employed learnerships, Graduate programmes, Short courses and bursaries.
We also offer a range of micro-credentials with a selection of our programmes. These are accredited through our international tech partners Google.org, Meta and AWS.
Costing
Umuzi has changed its pricing structure to support different pathways.
Please see below the details of costing and structure of the different learning offerings.
Umuzi has expanded into Africa
Our Africa expansion, through the African Coding Network (ACN), has been rapid and we have had several thousand learners completing programmes with us last year. This year we will be continuing that growth and forging ahead with our partners Unicef, Yoma, Google.org, Meta and AWS.
Our aim is to work with 10,000 young people in 2023 and grow our network of partners continentally.
Our goal to decrease inequality on the continent starts with addressing the market failure that currently exists. Africa’s borders share the biggest youth bubble on the world map and with a high unemployment crisis, 1 in 4 young people are destined not to find work. On the other side of the market failure, 69% of companies worldwide have reported not being able to find the skills they need to equip their businesses for the digital future.
Together with our partners our aim is simple: become the bridge that connects talented unemployed young people on the continent to high value dignified tech jobs.
If you are working on the continent, we would love to share our story and see if there are ways to support you with finding your next generation talent pipeline
